about

This is a piece I submitted to the Snarky Puppy competition (required use of samples from "Tarova," but still writing an original composition). I've come to realize that I'll never "finish" anything - especially this song - but there is a point where the vision is almost fully complete and that's when I feel safe releasing the music into the world.

This song is a musical narrative of my trip to Joshua Tree.

It started with excitement and the thrill of nature - then distant rain appeared, and the storm started to drift closer. Anticipation and nervousness built as the wind picked up, and the storm surrounded us. We watched the lightning strike distant mountains, and after all had passed, the sky lit up with the most beautiful pink sunset we'd ever seen. We got distracted and realized we had to frantically build a fire before it was dark, etc. etc...there's way more, and all of this parallels the internal journey (storm) as well.

I'll stop blabbing and just let you listen. Thank you for sharing this experience with me, and let me know what you think!

Love, Tom

lyrics

runnin to the rocks, you and I
lookin at the clouds in the sky
listen to the birds as they cry
trippin on the pink tarova sky
2x

the rain
the wind
the storm approaches
the pink bird of fire

don’t be afraid, my love
I’m right here
the storm won’t last forever
dry your tears

runnin to the rocks, you and I
lookin at the clouds in the sky
listen to the birds as they cry
trippin on the pink tarova sky
2x

the rain
the wind
the storm has passed us
the sun sets in peace
